When I first came to Indiana University, I needed a way to get connected with the students, faculty, and resources offered. Statistics Club was the perfect fit to surround myself with likeminded people from very different backgrounds. The club bridges the gap between the wide variety of paths students can find themselves taking on their way to becoming a statistician. From my experience, a statistician is not someone who woke up one day and decided statistics was the career path for them. It is trial and error of different majors and careers before finally finding the field of statistics that can be so rewarding.
This club has given me the ability to connect with people on this same path and find reassurance in the decisions I make. I was fortunate enough to become the treasurer of the club and facilitate money for events we put on to recruit students and connect with others from several departments. Many majors have a statistics requirement so it is nice to see a club that can house ideas from all across campus. I am excited to learn more from my peers and make lifelong friends through the process.
